Electronic Poker is a popular game that can be played in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at your house on your personal computer, through an Internet connection. The rules are absolutely straightforward and involve the player trying to achieve the highest assemblage of cards possible in order to come away with money. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the involvement with any other players. Of course, methods used in a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the bettor puts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and pushes the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the video screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and enthusiasts should now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler would like to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they want, whether it is all or none.
After the bettor has selected which cards he wishes to keep, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards are given out if desired. The game is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands listed in the pay out schedule.
Typically, the lowest winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands begins with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and last but not least royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the pay out schedule can change from game to game, so that skillful enthusiasts are agile enough to select the most profitable machine each instance.
After the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to stay on and try to to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any cash that they may have won. Further, a few versions of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to increase their winnings, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also differences between specific games, with some virtual decks including wild cards and other varying characteristics to enhance playability.
