How to Enjoy Video Poker

Video Poker is a beloved game that is able to be bet on in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at home on your PC, through an Internet account. The rules are very simple and involve the player trying to get the highest combination of cards achievable in order to come away with cash. On this account it is much the same as a normal game of poker, minus the interaction with any other players. Of course, techniques used in a physical game of poker, like tricking, will be useless in Video Poker.

The game of Video Poker begins when the bettor inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and presses the play button. A hand of five cards will be electronically ‘distributed’ on the screen.

The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and gamblers will need to now pick which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons should be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, whether it’s all or none.

After the bettor has selected which cards she wishes to retain, they should press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards are needed they will be dealt. The game is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payment schedule.

Normally, the minimum winning hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It definitely goes without saying that the payment schedule can vary from machine to machine, so that experienced players are able to choose the most profitable game every time.

After the initial round has played out, the player can either choose to remain on in an attempt to maximize their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any money that might have been won. Further, some versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to double their winnings, in which situation a further hand is played. There are also variations among individual machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing characteristics to enhance playability.
