Video Poker is a beloved game that can be enjoyed in casinos throughout the world, or alternatively at your house on your PC, through a web account. The game rules are very simple and involve the player attempting to get the best combination of cards possible in order to acquire money. In this respect it’s much the same as a regular game of poker, minus the involvement with other players. Of course, tactics employed during a real-life game of poker, such as tricking, will be irrelevant in Video Poker.
The game of Electronic Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, credit slips or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the draw button. A 5 card hand will be "given out" on the video screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and gamblers will need to now decide which cards to keep and which to discard. For the cards the player wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can decide to keep any amount of cards they wish, whether it is all or none.
After the gambler has decided on which cards she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any fresh cards will be needed they will be handed out. The round is now finished, with the Video Poker machine scanning the hand to see if it matches any of the winning hands shown on the pay out schedule.
Typically, the minimum succeeding hand on an Electronic Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each and every better hand. A list of common winning hands begins with jacks or better, moving on to two pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that knowledgeable enthusiasts are able to choose the most profitable game each instance.
As soon as the initial round has finished, the player can either decide to remain on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that have been won. Additionally, several versions of the game allow the gambler a chance to double their winnings, in which case a further game is played. There are also variations between individual games, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other varying aspects to enhance playability.
