Electronic Poker is a favored game that can be played in casinos across the globe, or alternatively at home on your home computer, through a web account. The rules are absolutely simple and consist of the player trying to get the best mixture of cards possible in order to acquire cash. In this respect it is very similar as a classic game of poker, minus the line of contact with any other players. Of course, techniques employed during a real-life game of poker, like tricking, will be useless here.
The game of Video Poker starts when the gambler puts credits (either tokens, tickets or money) into the video poker machine and pushes the play button. A five card hand will then be electronically ‘dealt’ on the screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ printed on them, and players should now decide which cards to keep and which to throw away. For the cards the bettor wishes to keep, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they light up. The player can decide to keep any number of cards they wish, from all to none.
After the bettor has decided on which cards he wishes to keep, they should press ‘deal’, which will mean that any new cards will be dealt if desired. The hand is now completed, with the Electronic Poker machine scanning the cards to see if it is the same as any of the winning hands listed in the payout schedule.
Normally, the minimum succeeding hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money increasing for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, moving on to 2 pairs, 3 of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, four of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It goes without saying that the payout schedule can change from machine to machine, so that discerning players are able to choose the most beneficial machine every time.
As soon as the first round has completed, the player can either choose to remain on and try to to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to retrieve any money that they may have won. Further, several versions of the game give the player an opportunity to double their profits, in which situation another round is played. There are also differences between individual games, with some virtual decks having wild cards and other varying characteristics to increase playability.
